We would like to invite the participants of the 4 th International Symposium on archaeological Mining History to contribute their own subjects in order to make the symposium successful. To maintain the special character of the symposium with a vast interaction between the separate European groups, preferable many participants should take the opportunity to make a contribution in one of the three suggested ways. All contributions should focus on this year's theme “Recognition, Investigation and Preservation of ancient mining relics” and also on questions regarding landscape, methodology of mining archaeology, social historical valuation or strategies of protection and preservation.

Registration of your contribution, deadlines

Registration of oral presentations and articles is closed. Poster presentations can be registered at short notice. If you plan a poster presentation, please send an e-mail to symposium2009@geologisch.com.

In what way can you contribute:

(1) The symposium book

The contributions to the symposium will again be published in a symposium book, for which the deadline is set BEFORE the start of the symposium. The book will ensure the codification of the symposium results and the extension of active contacts between the participants straight after the symposium. All contributors should hand in their presentation in written form for publication in the symposium book. Articles that are not connected to one of the presentations are also welcome. Please pay attention to the following template for symposium book presentations:

The article is based on scientific field-research, literature study or archives study. The article are written in French, German, Dutch or preferably in English. All articles that are written in foreign languages will be translated and printed in English.

The article is provided with references of consulted literature and sources. The references are input as footers and in the following lay-out:

Initial and surname author, underlined title of the book (between brackets place and year of publication)pages.

For example a book: J. Silvertant ed., What lies Beneath. 3 rd International Symposium on archaeological Mining History (Maastricht 2008)22-28.

An article: K. Amendt, “A medieval quarrying technique” in: What lies Beneath. 3 rd International Symposium on archaeological Mining History (Maastricht 2008)30-43.

An article should contain approximately 20 pages A4 (Garamond 11 pt ) exclusive of figures and pictures. The article should be handed in as a Microsoft Word (.DOC-Format) document. Pictures and figures should be set up in JPEG-Format (300 dpi) saved as size 13x18 centimetres. Pictures and figures should preferably be send by mail to the editor's postal address (see below) or in separate e-mails that do not extend beyond 20 Mb. Pictures and figures also preferably in CMYK colour. Older black and white pictures in Grayscale. Please make sure that the numbers on the pictures are the same as the description of the pictures.

PLEASE DO NOT MENTION NUMBERS OF PICTURES INCORPORATED IN THE ARTICLE'S TEXT, BUT ALWAYS PROVIDE US WITH AN ADDITIONAL, SEPARATE DESCRIPTION PER PICTURE/FIGURE!! YOU CAN ALSO MARK THE DESIRED PLACING OF PICTURES/FIGURES IN THE TEXT BY INSERTING AN ISOLATED NUMBER BETWEEN BRACKETS IN THE PARTICULAR SENTENCE/PARAGRAPH.

Attention: DEADLINE for articles to be printed in the symposium book is the 15 th of March 2009! All authors receive a free second copy of the book.
